Chiang Mai is by far the most popular city in Thailand. It is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Not that strange if you think about all the things you can do in this city. In this article you will find the top 10 things to do in Chiang Mai!

Visit the Oldtown

The oldtown of Chiang Mai is the place to be in the city. It is not that big and you are able to see pretty much everything within 2 days. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants, old buildings and temples.

Visit Doi Suthep

One of the most famous and most visited temples in Chiang Mai, or actually just outside. You can take a red taxi for 50 Baht each way but only if there are about 8 or 10 people to go with. Otherwise you will have to wait or pay like 300 Baht each to go there.

Go to Doi Inthanon

This is the highest mountain of Thailand and the best thing is: it is very close to Chiang Mai. There are several tours you can take up the mountain. For the best views you need a clear sky!

Zipline your way through the jungle

Ziplining is a fun activity that is very popular among tourists in Chiang Mai. There are a few travel organizations that offer ziplining but Flight of a Gibbon is probably the most known of all of them.

Go Rafting or Kayaking

For fun water activities in or around Chiang Mai you can go kayaking or rafting. The rapids are not to difficult so it is fun for the whole family. The most famous rafting spot is about 10km long and will take you through gorgeous nature!

Follow a Cooking class

One of the most fun experiences i had in Chiang Mai was the cooking class i did. You will learn so much about Thai food and how to prepare it. First you will visit the local market for all the supplies and the cooking teacher will tell you about the ingredients you are going to use. And then it is time to cook and eat!

Visit an Elephant rescue park

One of the great excursions you can do in Chiang Mai is visiting an elephant park. The most famous one is Elephant Nature Park. You can visit this park for half a day or a full day. You can also volunteer here but unfortunately you have to pay for that.
Another elephant park is Maerim Elephant Sanctuary. You can choose between half day in the morning (1600 Baht), half day in the evening (1600 Baht) and a full day (2000 Baht).
Volunteering at this park is free but they would like you to stay at least 4 weeks!

Do Yoga

Chiang Mai is famous for a lot of things and one of them is yoga. This city is a good place to do yoga and there are a lot of yoga classes you can taken. Most of them are about 90 minutes long and will cost you 200-300 Baht.

Explore Northern Thailand by Tuk-Tuk

The Tuk Tuk Club is an travel organization which offers tours with a tuk-tuk. At the beginning of the trip you will learn how to drive one, you will be driving the tuk-tuk all through Norhern Thailand. It is not a problem if you don’t want to drive one, you can always hop on one of the others going on the trip.

After all these must do things it is relaxing time! What better way to relax then taking a massage. The best thing about massages in Chiang Mai, they are relatively cheap compared to the rest of Thailand. The massage parlor i liked the most is The Green Bamboo. The people here are very friendly and professional!
