Trying the local street food is a great way to experience the culture of a country. Here are 5 of my favourite street foods from around the world.

1. Pupusas

Country: El Salvador
Pupusas are delicious stuffed corn dough patties, cooked on a barbecue. Common fillings include beans and cheese, pork, plain cheese and cheese and spinach. Pupusas are often served with a pickled cabbage salad.

2. Pad Thai

Country: Thailand
A trip to Thailand is not complete without visiting one of the many street carts selling freshly made Pad Thai. Just watching the vendor cook up the dish on the spot is an experience worth having.

3. Belgian Waffles

Country: Belgium
Don’t worry, if you have a sweet tooth, then this one is for you. Belgian waffles are often dusted with confectioner’s sugar, though they might also be topped with whipped cream, soft fruit or chocolate spread.

4. Khachapuri

Country: Georgia
A white bread stuffed with flavorful cheese and an egg, and often served in a shape of a boat. Locals often rip chucks off the boat crust and dip it into the cheesy egg middle.

5. Poutine

Country: Canada
Traditionally poutine consists of french fries and cheese curds topped with a light brown gravy, however some vendors are now serving themed poutine with various different accompanying toppings such as guacamole and salsa.
