5 Reasons to visit Slovenia

You might not know Slovenia but that will change now! Slovenia is one of the best countries to visit in southeast Europe, especially the countries nature is one of the reasons to go! Combined with old towns makes Slovenia one of the nicest countries to travel in.

Beautiful Lakes

Slovenia is well known for Lake Bled but there are many other lakes as well. One of the biggest in the northwest of the country is called Lake Bohinj. You can easily visit this lake from Lake Bled or even the capital city Ljubljana.

Lots of caves

In the southwest of Slovenia you’ll find multiple caves. The most famous one is by far Postojna. You can take a daytrip to this cave from Ljubljana. Another cave a little bit further towards the coast is Skocjan near the town of Divaca. The easiest way to get here is by train from Koper and then take a small bus to the entrance of the cave. The bus is free for those who are going to visit the cave and departures once every hour!

Historical towns

Slovenia has a lot of historical towns you must visit. From Ljubljana it’s possible to do multiple daytrips to (for example) Kamnik, Skofja Loka and Idrija. At the coast, next to the border with Croatia there is another historical town called Piran which is one of the most beautiful towns of Slovenia.

Stunning Coastline

The country has only a short coastline of 46 kilometers and is located between Italy and Croatia. There are 4 bigger towns; Koper, Izola, Portoroz and Piran. Portoroz is the place to be when it comes to sun, sea and the beach. Piran is one of the most stunning towns of Slovenia with lots of history.

Cheap country to travel in

Besides amazing nature Slovenia is also a cheap country to travel in. A day budget would be around €25-€30, depending on how much you spend. Accommodation on average is around €15, a meal at a restaurant not more than €10 but you can buy all your groceries for the day for under €10. Public transport is very cheap too, a daytrip from Ljubljana will cost you around €10-€15.
